Joe Berkovitz makes wall-hung sculptures that explore the world of color, shape, light and dimensionality. Many of his works have complex and intricate forms that arise from repeated application of a simple idea or rule.

Some works employ laser-cut tempered hardboard painted in bright, flat acrylic colors, precisely arranged and sometimes joined with other materials. Others include transparent or mirrored surfaces. While the sculptures are mostly flat, their three-dimensional relief gives them life and energy: the layers, hues and reflections shift dramatically as one changes position.
